SGFPD Board of Trustees

The Spring Grove Fire Protection District Board of Trustees is a 5-member board consisting of a Board President, Secretary, Treasurer and 2 additional Trustees.  The board members are elected by the residents of the Fire Protection District and serve  for a 6-year term.  The last election was held in April 2009.  The current Trustees are:

President Jack Schmitt (elected in 2005)

Vice President Ed Kattner (elected in 2005)

Secretary Russ Chambers  (elected in 2009)

Treasurer Harvey Petska (elected in 2005)

Trustee Scott Davis  (elected in 2009)

Attorney Rich Curran (Cowlin, Curran & Coppedge, Inc).

The board meets on a regular basis on the third Tuesday of every month at 7PM.


SGFPD Fire Chief Rich Tobiasz

Richard Tobiasz has served as the Chief of the Spring Grove Fire Protection District for since May 1993.  He began his career as a Fox Lake Fire Department volunteer in 1974 and became one of the District's first paramedics in 1982.  He has a bachelor's degree in Fire Science from Southern Illinois University.  Other certifications include Fire Officer II, Fire Prevention Officer and FAE.  His experience includes almost 34  years in the fire service and 32 years as a paramedic.  Previously he was the EMS Coordinator at Northern Illinois Medical Center and Chief Flight Nurse for Flight For Life-McHenry.  He is an adjunct faculty member in the Fire Science Division at McHenry County College.   As the first hired regular staff member, he has worked to transition the department from a paid-on-call (POC) to a paid-on-premise (POP) staff.  Other responsibilities include being the District's business and human resource manager.  He also works very closely with the Village of Spring Grove as both continue to grow.  He noted that, "the members of this department are our greatest asset".
